About

Yvette Koth

Yvette Koth, founder of Conscious Dressage, is a relationship-centric, consent-based trainer and coach for classical dressage, a writer and translator for all things equine, and a marketing executive in higher education. She is in the process of getting certified in equine craniosacral therapy with Integrated Equine Therapies (Tom Mayes). A native of Germany, Yvette lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area. She holds a Masters degree from San Jose State University.

Under the tutelage of British coach Andrew Murphy, a student of Arthur Kottas-Heldenberg and Charles de Kunffy, she recognized the immense potential of the classical principles. As she continued to witness the rehabilitative and protective powers of correct dressage training, her passion ultimately evolved into a career.

And it’s that focus on improving the horse’s balance, range of motion, suppleness, and joy of movement that’s become the main driver of Yvette’s work. Bring her your stiff or tired or green or crooked horses, and begin the process of systematic gymnastization for their best chance at long term soundness.

More recently, Yvette’s journey of expanding awareness pushes the boundaries of possibility. She has found Warwick Schiller (see “You can’t gymnastisize your way out of shut down”) and Tom Mayes to be excellent sources of inspiration here.

Yvette has also translated Olympic gold medalist Jessica von Bredow-Werndl’s book “Heaven on Horseback.” It’s a an authentic account of her journey from the “girl who loves horses” to the the very top of international dressage sport - all with a no-punishment training philosophy. Additionally, she translated “Neapolitamo Nima I – The White Diamond,” a book by Rudolph Kuzmicki in honor of the legendary Lippizaner stallion at the Spanish Riding School in Vienna who lived to be 40 years old.

What do Yvette’s clients say?

“I love that Yvette is such a student, always looking to find answers to what is best for the horse. My horse trusts her, I trust her, to be fair, correct and harmonious. Plus watching her on a horse is a lovely sight!” Patti S.
